Stacey Dash's Biography
Stacey was born in 1966 in The Bronx, New York is of African American, Mexican and Indian descent. She is probably best known for her role as high school student Dionne Davenport in the 1995 film ‘Clueless.’
Stacey started her career in the TV series “Sesame Street” as a child. Dash's first major film role was in the Richard Pryor comedy ‘Moving’ in 1988. She also had sizable roles in ‘Mo' Money’ and ‘Renaissance Man’ during this time. Two years later, she starred with Mark Wahlberg and Danny DeVito in Renaissance Man (1994). Then in 1995, she did the provocative erotic thriller Illegal in Blue (1995).
But Dash received her big break with the film ‘Clueless’ alongside Alicia Silverstone. Dash played a teenager even though she was 29 at the time. Dash looked much younger than her age and was able to pull off the role.
The film eventually spawned a television spinoff in 1996 titled funnily enough “Clueless” starring Dash although Silverstone had opted out of the project. The series was eventually was cancelled in 1999. She then went on to play Vanessa Weir in the television series ‘The Strip.’ However, it was not a success and was cancelled after a handful of episodes.
After the TV series Clueless, Dash's career has been patchy. Her credits include many little known movies, including the hip-hop western ‘Gang Of Roses’, with Monica Calhoun, Lisa Raye, and Lil' Kim, and ‘Getting Played’ with Vivica A. Fox,Bill Bellamy, and Carmen Electra. She has also appeared as small guest roles on TV shows such as “Eve” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
In 2004, Dash was featured in a music video by Kanye West, label mate of cousin Damon Dash, for the single "All Falls Down." Dash posed nude, at the age of 40, in the August 2006 issue of Playboy. She is also featured in the upcoming Michelle Pfeiffer film “I Could Never Be Your Woman.”
In 2006 Stacey was featured as the "favorite girl" in Marques Houston's song, "Favorite Girl".
Dash is the cousin of Damon Dash, the former CEO and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records. (Stacey was a good friend of Damon's late girlfriend Aaliyah who was tragically killed in a plane crash in August 2001.) She's also the sister of singer Tia Gordon and Darien Dash, CEO of DME Interactive Holdings, the first publicly traded African-American owned internet company.
Stacey has been married to Brian Lovell (they met on the set of Clueless, where he was an electrician) since July 1999. Stacey Dash has two children.
Stacey Dash, born to West Indian and Aztec Indian parents, is a native of the Bronx, New York. At an early age, she knew she wanted to become an actress. She made her television-acting debut on The Cosby Show (1984), as she appeared on a regular basis. In addition, she had a role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990), as well as St. Elsewhere (1982).
